Well I have explained some of the features of the 2001 Mach Z 800, some of these features are found on most to all BRP products today. The sled will not operate over 3000RPM with the incorrect tether cord installed. So is it like the 97 700 that it needs the hole drilled for the extra oil to the bearing?

The snowmobile itself road like a Cadillac but it was not without problems. The nice thing is you could tell if that was problem because fuel would come up the DPM lines and plugs would foul. The nice features of the sled would have to be the look and feel of the machine. The electronic starter and reverse are the best feature and a must. The gas millage was actually better then my friends ZR 500 which was a surprise. Below is some info about the machine and features. This engine was known as a legend which powered the mach z for a few years before triple triple engines disappeared in the 2 stroke fashion. The engine is 3 cylinders with a displacement of 796. The Carburetion was supplied by 3x TM-38 with D. The exaust system was 3 triple pipes to a tuned can which has 3 bottom outlets. Digital Performance Management: The system basically varies the fuel delivery by manipulating the float bowl pressure and its adjusts based on temperature and altitude. The DPM unit looks like a black tube that has air hoses hooked up to the carburetors. The DPM has an electric actuator that moves in and out and adjusts the pressure of the float bowl. Later model sleds incorporate Knock Sensors into the system as well. The key must be programmed by the dealer to work with the sled. The sled will not operate over 3000RPM with the incorrect tether cord installed. This is activated by the pulling of a lever near your right leg on the snowmobile. This was a luxury add-on for most snowmobilers, and most people had to ask and pay more for it to be added. Some cases it would be standard on really heavy machines like the 2000 Thundercat. Skidoo developed a system where by the push of the button the engine would stop, then it would start back up with the engine running in the reverse direction. Also the clutch has a special helix which is also part of this system. The MPEM is what controls and activates this system. Keep in mind you should let your sled warm up for about 5min before engaging if your machine is ice cold as it will stall the engine in most cases. Also its seems you can go very fast in reverse so be careful getting used to it. Well I have explained some of the features of the 2001 Mach Z 800, some of these features are found on most to all BRP products today. I hope this explains some of the features better to you and helps you make a decision on a new sled. Personally my Mach z 800 was the best and will miss it a lot, it had these features above and plus some. The sled was really fast and mostly reliable. This will also add to an already fast snowmobile. Please check out my video its me driving my Machz 800 120MPH across a lake. Copyright © 2018 HubPages Inc.
